1st Year at Qaulirmat
Hi, I’m Victoria Tukkiapik. As any Inuk woman, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges in life. The road hasn’t always been smooth, but every obstacle has shaped me into the strong, determined person I am today.
I’ve worked in professional roles within the mining industry, studied philosophy at university, and now I serve as the chairperson of our regional health board. I’m also proud to be a council member of the municipality of Quaqtaq, where I work directly with my community to strengthen the future we’re building together.
In everything I do, I hold firmly to my values and principles. I don’t tolerate nonsense, because I know how important it is to be clear, honest, and reliable—especially when people’s well-being is at stake. One thing people across Nunavik know about me: if I say I’ll do something, I’ll do it. No excuses, no delays. That reputation means a lot to me, because it’s built on trust—and I work hard to live up to it every day.
I’ll even prove it with a story. During Qaulirmat, part of my job is to track down hunters, guest speakers, and artists for the program. Sounds simple, right? Well, try doing it while your car tire leaks air so fast you have to pump it up four times a day. Most people would call that a headache—I call it dedication. To me, it’s not just an errand, it’s a requirement I take seriously, because every hunter, speaker, and artist we bring in makes a real difference for the kids.
I’m committed to going the extra mile (literally, even on a half-flat tire), especially when it means helping people and supporting the youth in my community. That’s what drives me forward: the chance to make a difference, one step—or one pumped tire—at a time.
I’m trilingual, and I have a deep love for sewing and the arts. These passions keep me grounded and connected to both tradition and creativity. At the same time, I’ve always carried a sense of humour with me—it’s part of how I stay strong, and it’s something that inspires others to find their own strength too.
Most of all, I show up. Whether it’s through work, community, or family, I believe in being involved and dependable. It’s how I live my values, and how I honour the place I come from and the people I care about.
